Contemporary Modern Garden in Limestone and Iroko
Rathfarnham, Dublin 14
This ALCI award winning garden uses very strong materials and textures to create a spacious, contemporary feel. The back drop of the garden features a wall clad in polished black limestone with a floating bench seat . Trim details of the black stone run around the garden linking the wall to the remaining area. The cream colored stone is mixed size Travertine. The boundaries are clad in Iroko hardwood which is oiled to bring out the timber grain.
The shed is built with block and clad with iroko with painted trims to match the travertine on the ground. The roof was kept as a flat roof to maintain the clean lines throughout.
The planting was kept simple with the feature trees being the pleached Carpinus along the side boundary. They produce a beautiful green leaf and the growth is kept very tight against the fence being on the pleached frame. This keeps the feeling very spacious all year round. An olive is planted in the rear corner with blue storm Agapanthus and miscanthus morning light filling up the lower spaces.

When was the work done?
March 2013.
What was involved?
Our back garden is small in size, approx. 15 square metres. Ross and his team stripped back the garden and then implemented a fabulous new pre-agreed design. The design was originally developed and presented in 3D chart form by Ross.
How did you choose Greenstone Landscapes?
My wife came across him on pickapro.ie. We had no previous knowledge of him. Once we had met him and viewed his proposed design it was clear we would proceed with Ross and his team.
Had you definite ideas in mind before you talked to Ross Farrell?
We had ideas but nothing even close to what Ross presented and we then finally proceeded with.
Did Ross introduce new ideas?
Absolutely, almost everything is his idea in one form or another.
How did the project run?
The project went slightly over schedule but that was mainly due to the poor unseasonal weather we had. Workmanship and Reliability is top class. His team of Mark and Pierce completed the majority of the work and we could not speak highly enough of them and their work. Ross was always on hand if we needed to discuss anything with him.
What was the biggest benefit to you of using Greenstone Landscapes?
His design idea and then execution of the agreed design.
What’s your favourite part now?
The garden is now an additional room to the house and we are looking forward to many years of enjoyment and relaxation in our new garden/room.
Would you recommend Greenstone Landscapes to others?
Absolutely.
Any tips for other people?
Do not be put off by the price. Before we met Ross we had a figure in our head which wasn’t close to the price presented to us by Ross for his design. After much thought, we decided to push the boat out and we could not be more satisfied with our decision. Yes, we could have got a mediocre garden done cheaper but long term this was certainly the right decision.
